Where spilled milk is just a way of life…

Today marked the very sad end of an era for mommy and daddy. Alex started school at Skribbes Learning Center today. While mommy has been back at work for over a month now, Alex was still able to spend his days at home with his toys, and his books, and getting all of the attention. But, since all good things in life are merely transient, Grandma Carol had to go home and we had to turn him over to someone else’s care.

Surely, this whole process will be harder on us (especially mommy) than on Alex, and we do very much like and trust the people at Skribbles. We recognize that it is important for him to learn to play with other kids and be exposed to other germs, but it’s still hard to rectify the feelings in your heart and the feelings in your head.

However, we’re lucky in that he’ll only be there a few days a week, and only around seven hours each day. It will be interesting to see how his behavior changes now that he’s being exposed to more people. Will he miss us at the end of the day and be especially cuddly? Will he realize that he can do the things he wants to do without us? Time will tell, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

In an effort to brainwash Alex into believing swimming is the coolest, we signed Alex up for swimming lessons at the local YMCA. It’s actually a really nice, brand new YMCA with a kickin’ pool and an awesome play area for little kids.

Asides aside, he had a great time in the pool. They sang songs, played motorboat, and jumped off the side. He seemed to get the hang of the kicking, but not the arm scoops. He is totally enthralled with the drainage reservoir on the side of the pool. The kid could watch water go down a drain for hours. We’re thinking of taking him to Australia just to mess with him.

If He Only Knew… Shaun Tarves

We found out sort of last minute that the 2004 and 2007 Red Sox World Series trophies were going to be at our city hall today, so we high-tailed it over there to get a glimpse, which got me thinking…

Alex, and really all Bostonians thus forth (is that a real phrase?), will never know the pain and agony of watching the Red Sox continually disappoint him. How will we try to explain to him that the Red Sox weren’t always the hottest ticket in town, and didn’t always have the biggest stars, and you couldn’t always say, “Man, the Yankees haven’t won a World Series since last century.” Alas, the times they are a’changin’.

This weekend, we went back to Portrait Simple to get portraits of Alex in his Christening outfit. We also took some fun ones of him in an adorable summer outfit we got him a few weeks ago.

Why, you may ask, will there be no pictures from the Christening posted? Well, it was balls hot and humid, and nobody wants to see a bunch of sweaty people.

Happy Bithday, Daddy! Shaun Tarves

Friday night, Stef surprised me with tickets to a Red Sox game for my brithday. We were all set to go out to dinner with Uncle Jay & Aunt Kristen, when bam!, I was hit with the tickets that everyone else knew about except me. We had Green Monster seats, which is obviously the best place ever to watch a baseball game. The game was absolutely wretched (as we had to endure three hours of Bartolo Colon), but we had an awesome time - except for Stef making me wear the stupid LED lightup Red Sox hat. Lame.

Perhaps the highlight of the evening was this guy - who, aside from having an awesome hat, decided to eat his Fenway Frank with a pocket knife. Good lord.
